The result of nearly 400 years of selective breeding, historians tend to support the Miniature Horse breed as a derivative of many sources. In prehistoric times small horse breeds were most likely the products of surviving harsh natural climates and limited feed. Today, knowledge of genetics has made the possibility of breeding specifically for size a reality.

The first mention of a small horse being imported into the United States was in 1888; and research shows little public awareness of true Miniatures until 1960. Popular belief is that American Miniature horses utilized the blood of English and Dutch mine horses brought into the United States in the 19th century and used in some Appalachian coal mines as late as 1950. The American Miniature Horse, as documented in the pedigrees of Miniatures today, also drew upon the blood of the Shetland pony. Throughout its colorful past, the Miniature Horse breed had been bred for pets, novelty, research, monetary gain, mining work, exhibition and royal gifts.

No bigger than a large dog, American Miniature Horses are "miniature" versions of well-balanced horses, possessing confirmation characteristics found in most equine breeds. Miniature Horses can be found in a rainbow of colors and types. Eager to please, the American Miniature Horse makes a gentle and affectionate companion for individuals of any age or ability. Though petite, Miniature Horses are extremely versatile and excel in a variety of disciplines including driving, halter, jumping, obstacle and others.

Our aim is to contribute to the creation of the perfect "Arabian" type horse in miniature form. Although the sire usually receives most of the credit for producing a great foal, it takes two champions, stallion and mare, to create the champions of the future. So even though we are still a small farm, we have set an ambitious goal for ourselves. We carefully choose only the best horses to build the foundation of our breeding program. All our foundation horses are direct descendants of highly successful show horses bred by some of the most famous and respected American Miniature Horse farms in the USA, including Alliance Miniatures, Little King Farm, Scott Creek Farm, and D'Armonds Littlest Angels Miniature Horses. The pedigrees of our horses are typically exhibiting an extensive number of World Champion titles on both sire and dam sides. Therefore, look no further... at Hulislaum is where those "Prettiest Littlest Loveliest Horsies" are found...

Hulislaum American Miniature Horses is located at an historic farm built in 1920 just outside of the tiny village of Hulsel.

This country village is known from as early as the year 710, when 'Hulislaum' as it was called at the time, was officially given to Willibrordus, the abbot of the Benedictine monastery of Echternach in Luxemburg. Hulislaum literally means "Forests of Holly", an apt name for this green rural village situated in the "Brabantse Kempen" among large meadows and crop fields, fields of heather, beautiful lakes and forests. Hulsel is located in the province of Noord-Brabant in the Netherlands, about 20km south of the city of Tilburg, about 30km west of the city of Eindhoven, and about 70km north-east of the city of Antwerp.

Hulislaum American Miniature Horses is a proud member of the American Miniature Horse Association (AMHA).
